NZIBS Diploma in Building Surveying (ISO9001:2015) – Core Module Training Programme 2020

Our Building Surveyors are required to undertake a comprehensive training programme as part of the NZIBS Transitional Membership career pathway toward becoming a Registered Building Surveyor.

The NZIBS Core Module Training Programme covers building law, forensic investigation, building science, material performance, construction methods, building remediation, technical and compliance report writing and expert witness work, contract administration, maintenance planning, lease reinstatement and inspection processes for both residential and commercial buildings.

The full range of core modules for both the NZIBS Diploma in Building Surveying (modules 1 to 14), Certificate in Residential Pre-Purchase Inspections (modules 1 to 5), Certificate in Forensic Building Surveying (modules 6 to 10) and Certificate in Commercial and Asset Management (Modules 11 to 14) are held in Auckland on an annual basis, typically from February until July. Courses are also held in Wellington and Christchurch providing there is sufficient demand. Course durations range from half a day to two days, with an examination at the end of the Core Module training day.

Upon successfully passing all of the 14 modules, you will become eligible to apply for the NZIBS Diploma in Building Surveying – ISO9001:2015 (Level 5).

The Core Module Programme 2020 is open for registration through completing the 2020 Core Module Training Registration Form.

Both members and non-members can attend any of the Core Module training courses throughout the year.

Certificate in Residential Property Inspections (ISO9001: 2015)

The Certificate in Residential Property Inspections is part of the NZIBS CPD Workshop Programme 2020. This certificate has been designed for Property Inspectors who are looking to upskill and work towards a formal qualification. The Certificate in Residential Property Inspections offers a comprehensive training programme, made up of the first five diploma modules.

Both NZIBS members and non-members are welcome to attend the training courses listed below. CPD points are applicable.

Certificate in Commercial & Asset Management (ISO9001: 2015)

Modules 11 - 14. These modules cover commercial building surveying practices and asset management.

NZIBS core module training criteria

NZIBS core modules require a minimum of 10 participants for them to be able to proceed. Should a module require postponement due to attendance numbers, notice will be given 10 business days prior to the course date.

To be eligible for the NZIBS member registration rate, applicants are required to be a current NZIBS Registered, Transitional or Student Member.

Payment is required upfront before the commencement of the module and/or before the close of registration. Pre-course reading will be released the day after the registration closure date to those who have made payment.

No refund will be given for any cancellation within 10 days of a core module course date. A substitute may be provided in place of the person who is unable to attend. No refund or discounts are offered if the participant chooses to attend the course and not undertake the examination.

Any pre-course reading information that is requested at a later date will incur an administrative charge of $25.00 + GST.

The current pass mark is 70% for all NZIBS core module training examinations. Those who are unsuccessful in the examination and have achieved a mark between 55 – 69%, will be required to undertake an exam resit. A three month stand down period is applicable. NZIBS run exam resits quarterly, in the main centres. Exam resit registrations close on the 1st of the month, prior to the exam resit date.

Should an attendee achieve a mark of 54% or under within an NZIBS core module training examination, they will be required to resit the full module. NZIBS will offer those students a discount off the registration fee.
