About us

First registered as an Incorporated Society in 1994, the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS) currently holds over 200 registered, transitional and student members across New Zealand. NZIBS offers core module training, events and publications to assist Registered Building Surveyors, and the wider industry, with providing the expert professional advice to inform a better built environment.

Our history

Roy Faris, Clerk of Works and Building Surveyor and Theo Marlow, Clerk of Works, Building Surveyor and Quantity Surveyor spearheaded the establishment the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors in 1993. Fast forward more than 25 years and the Institute now holds over 200 members across New Zealand. Find out more


Membership applications are open to those who hold a recognised construction industry qualification, or are currently studying to become qualified. Membership applications are also available for those with a significant degree of experience in the building surveying profession. Find out more
